Open For Travel

We are often asked what our travel policy/ charges are. There are never any travel charges to shoot a wedding video between Logan, Utah and Provo, Utah, but we get requests to shoot videos outside our home area.

We try to keep things simple, so we bill travel at $1.00 per mile of distance between our office and the location. For example, a wedding video in Manti, UT is 151 miles from our office, so travel expenses would be $151 total.

For locations over 200 miles, we will need to stay 1-2 nights in a hotel, depending on when your wedding ceremony and the wedding video shoot are scheduled to begin. In this case, overnight stays are billed at cost for a reasonably priced hotel room. So here are some examples of different wedding video travel scenarios:

Idaho Falls, ID : $190
Manti, UT: $151
Moab, UT: $262 + Hotel
Jackson Hole, WY: $279 + Hotel
Bryce Canyon, UT: $299 + Hotel
St. George, UT: $295 + Hotel
Boise, ID: $317 + Hotel
Las Vegas, NV: $389 + Hotel
Denver, CO: $380 + Hotel
San Diego, CA: $655 + Hotel
New York, NY: $1,965 + Hotel
Miami, FL: $2,096 + Hotel
Maui, HI: $2,973 + Hotel

Travel prices include our food, travel, etc., so there are no additional charges aside from those listed above. If you live out of our home area, or if you are getting married outside our home area and would like to have Reflection as your wedding video company of choice, feel free to give us a call to work out travel arrangements.

Wedding Video Length

We are often asked how long a reception video will be. To that question, we clearly respond: that depends. So what makes a video longer or shorter? Several factors influence the overall length of your reception or wedding video. These factors include (but are not limited to):

1- The package you purchase. In order to get a two song video like this one, it is important that we have adequate shooting time. Even though a reception is two hours, there may be family pictures and preparation beforehand. Also, it is unlikely you will leave at your scheduled time- so purchasing the extra hour or next package up is the single biggest factor on whether or not we will have enough footage for two songs.

2- The songs you choose. If you choose short songs, the video will be shorter, if you choose 6-minute songs, then your video will only be one song. Try to keep music between 3 to 5 minutes.

3- Activities. If you plan only to stand in line for the duration of the reception, your wedding video will be rather dull and short. However, things like the cake cutting, bouquet toss, garter toss, and most especially dancing make enormous contributions to not only the length of the wedding video, but also the watchability.

NOW IN WIDESCREEN!!!

In keeping up with the times, we have switched all our wedding videos going forward from a standard 4:3 frame to new widescreen (16:9) shooting. If you're not familiar, you will notice this video (and all forthcoming videos) are wider than the our other videos.

We decided to make the change to coincide with the government's required digital TV conversion- not that our videos are affected by the digital television change, but it's a sign of the times. Most of our clients are now watching their videos on LCD, Plasma, and now LED televisions, which are built in widescreen.

If you still have a square TV, no worries! You will just see a letterbox (the black bar at the top and bottom of the screen) while watching your video on a square TV. Hope you enjoy the new widescreen look!

Bad Weather

We often are asked what we do if the weather turns bad. While we will usually shoot in light to medium precipitation, this occasion brought a monsoon-force downpour. Though every case is different when it comes to weather, the location allowed us to shoot indoors for part of the shoot, and even though the package didn't include reception coverage, we attended a portion of the reception to ensure a beautiful finished video. Thanks to Lisa & Dan for keeping a big smile and making this video turn out so well.

Heritage Gardens Reception

Without a doubt, one of our favorite reception shoots of all time. This was shot at the Heritage Gardens reception center in Sandy, UT. This has all the elements of a great reception video; a cute couple, an awesome reception center, lots of guests, cake cutting & smearing, bouquet toss, garter toss and dancing.

Choosing Music

A brief "How to" on how to choose the right music for your wedding video:

The music you choose for your wedding video will make all the difference in how your final video turns out. It's a hard fact to face, but it's important to understand. Choosing the right song for your video is probably the second most important decision about your video (the first being who you hire to shoot it.)

So how do you choose the right music? Here are a few suggestions:

1- Pick music that is timeless but relevant. Some songs are hot for a year, then burn out. Some songs are classics, but are so drab and stale they are better suited for elevators than wedding videos. Choose a song that will still be good in 5, 10, or 20 years, but remember to keep it relevant to what you like to listen to.

2- Choose a tempo that fits your vision of the video. Do you dream of a slow, romantic video, or a fun and exciting video? There is no right answer, but the music you choose will greatly influence the overall feel of your video. If you want romantic, choose something slower. If you like it more fun, pick something with a good tempo.

3- Keep your music at 3-4 minutes. While it's OK to go a little over or under this time limit, it's best to keep your songs at the 3-4 minute range to keep the timing of the video natural. A 2-minute song makes for a short video segment that feels too abrupt. Songs that are more than 4 to 4.5 minutes start to drag on, so bear that in mind as you choose your songs.

4- Plan. You will need 3-4 songs for your photo montage, 2 songs for your ceremony/ temple footage, and 2 songs for the reception. It's always great to include 1-2 extra songs when submitting your music just in case on of your original choices doesn't quite fit. So all together, you should have 7-9 songs on your music CD. If you have a particular song choice to go with a particular video segment, be sure to include a note about your preferences.

Finally, if you need help choosing music, don't be afraid to ask. We shoot a lot of videos, and edit with a lot of music, and get to know a lot of personalities as we're making videos. We can usually decide what music would work best for you after only a few minutes of discussion.

Hardison Peek Promo Video

Check out this fun promotional video we created for Hardison Peek (our preferred photographers). It gives a little insight as to what makes them unique over the rest of the photographers out there.

Stephanie & Derek- traditional

This video was shot at the Canterbury in Bountiful (awesome place, by the way). Since YouTube has a 10 minute limit, the actual ceremony is missing from this video, but you can see the entire ceremony on our main web site. My favorite part of this shoot was the double-camera edit. We had one camera in the back, and a camera up front. So not only did we capture the entire ceremony, we got the close-up shots to show the true emotion. This type of shoot is part of our Love Story package.

Alex & Mitch- Temple

The weather cooperated for this shoot. While it was howling wind and rain in Ogden, things were going well in SLC. The best part of this shoot was the time- we rarely get to shoot a temple video when it's almost dark, so this is one of our favorite new videos- gorgeous couple (yes, that's Mitch Payne- the kicker for the BYU football team), beautiful location, and a great setting.
